College Culinary Competition Results Announced
Twelve teams from Midwest colleges competed in a college culinary competition called “In a Pinch” at the Midwest Foodservice Expo on March 9, 2015.
Teams of two culinary students worked together to create a starter and entrée. The twist is that they need to creatively incorporate three surprise ingredients into the two plates.
The surprise ingredients: Spotted Cow Beer, Brie Cheese and Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate were revealed to the competitors one week before the event.
The teams were judged on their demonstration of culinary knowledge, skills and creative abilities by professionals from the foodservice industry.
The team of Franciane Hencke & Brittany Jackson from Fox Valley Technical College won first place. The team of Hannah DeBoth & Dan Budda from Waukesha County Technical College took second place. The team of Alexandra Soglin & Youa Lor from Madison College placed third. The top three teams were awarded medals and cash prizes. The colleges from the top three teams were given trophies.
